Climate change refers to long-term changes in temperature and weather patterns. These changes may be due to natural factors such as changes in the solar cycle. However, since 1800, human activity has been one of the main drivers of climate change, particularly climate change caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas.

Burning fossil fuels creates greenhouse gas emissions, which cover the Earth like a blanket, attracting heat from the Sun and causing temperatures to rise.

Examples of greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change include carbon dioxide and methane. These are generated from the fuel used when driving a car or heating buildings by burning coal.

Clearing land and forests also releases carbon dioxide. Garbage in landfills is also a major source of methane emissions. Energy, industry, transport, construction, agriculture and land use are among the main emitters.
